BodyShambhala is a family-owned and operated festival in Canada, supported by a core staff of friends who love what they do; putting on a world-class electronic music festival for our 10,000 friends.

This is Canada’s premiere Electronic Music Festival. Cutting edge Talent, Lights and Sound come together in Paradise to give life to a non -sponsored family run anomaly. Seeing it for yourself is the only way to understand exactly what is Shambhala.

History
Shambhala Music Festival began in the summer of 1998 when approximately 500 people gathered at the Salmo River Ranch. Over the years, the festival grew organically by word of mouth – friends bringing friends to create a community built upon Shambhalove. In 2010, for the first time, we reached our 10,000 guest capacity. In 2011 the festival saw it’s first sell-out in advance of our gates opening. Online tickets for Shambhala 2012 sold out in just 17 days, in November 2011.

Shambhala is a family-owned business. Farm owners Rick and Sue Bundschuh’s three children produce the festival. Jimmy, the youngest of the three, is the Executive Producer. Anna, the middle child, and Corrine, the eldest child, are the Producers.

Shambhala does not accept any corporate sponsorship and thus retains a true reflection of our people and their own vision. Our attendees are our sponsors.

When not hosting the festival, the 500 acre Salmo River Ranch is a working farm. Cows roam, farm dogs, horses, pigs, chickens, miniature donkeys (yes, you read that right), gardens and hay fields are the normal business affairs. There is also a small sawmill on the property that transforms into our main gate during showtime.

A dedicated crew of 2000 workers and volunteers keep the bustling city of Shambhala operating during showtime. Combined with our ten thousand guests, this makes Shambhala the largest city in the West Kootenays for five days. All of this on a farm without so much as an electricity hookup. Everything is brought in to bring this temporary city to such vivid life. When we depart, the farm returns to its off gird existence. Hay fields replace campgrounds and cows roam the forest trails.

Shambhala is held annually in early August and boasts 6 uniquely themed stages, each managed by their own Stage Director. Each of them books their talent, dreams the scene and delivers a cutting edge experience unlike any other. Shambhala aims to bring the best in up & coming electronic music talent from around the globe. We believe in supporting our local community and strive to excel in the festival and events industry.

Above all, Shambhala is a celebration of music, art and life. Your participation is so imporant – we set the stage, you bring the party. We thank each and every one of you for sharing your spark of Shambhalove with each other. We’ll see you when you come Home in August!

: Shambhala is, and always will be, completely free of corporate sponsorship.

Why is that important? It allows:
* us to maintain creative freedom of the event (rather than catering to another company’s “corporate image”)
* you the fullest in your creative freedom of expression – whether it takes the form of a sign, a costume, or dancing naked on the beach.
* us to keep our event free from logos and influences we’re used to in our daily lives.

Shambhala grew organically by word of mouth – friends bringing friends over the past 15 years. Ticket sales are capped at 10,000, keeping it an intimate gathering.

Shambhala is held annually on the second weekend of August on the pristine Salmo River Ranch, boasting 6 uniquely themed stages. We aim to bring you the best in up & coming electronic music talent from around the world, along with well-known favourites.

Shambhala is a celebration of music, art and life. And while we lay the groundwork, the festival is what you, our guests, make it. You are the most important piece of the puzzle. It’s up to you to spread the Shambhalove. In your kindness to fellow Shambhazens, your laughter, your creative costumes; you have the power to make Shambhala the best it can be, for yourself and everyone else on the Farm.

: You are a part of our Farmily. You are Home.

History
The Swedish Piratpartiet, founded on 1 January 2006 under the leadership of Rickard Falkvinge, was the first pirate party. The party's name was derived from Piratbyrån, an organization opposed to intellectual property. Members of Piratbyrån had previously founded the BitTorrent tracker The Pirate Bay. The group chose the "pirate" label, which had been used by the media and film industries in campaigns against copyright infringement, as an attempt at reappropriation of the word.

Parties in other countries, such as the Pirate Party of Austria (founded in July 2006) and the Pirate Party Germany (September 2006), were inspired by the Swedish example. In October 2006, Pirate Parties International was founded as an umbrella organization. In the European Parliament election of 2009 the Swedish Pirate Party received 7.1 percent of the votes, winning two seats and achieving the first major success of a Pirate Party in an election. The German Pirate Party managed to win 8.9 percent of the votes in the Berlin state election, 2011.

Historically, the ideals of the Pirate parties are partially based on groups such as the Electronic Frontier Foundation and the Chaos Computer Club, representing the hacker culture and values centered around freedom of information and free exchange of knowledge.

The Uppsala Declaration
At the 2009 conference of Pirate Parties International in Uppsala (Sweden), European Pirate Parties agreed on a common declaration of the parties' goals for the upcoming election of the European Parliament. Central issues of the declaration are:
* reform of copyright, exemption of non-commercial activity from copyright regulation, reduction of the duration of copyright protections; banning of DRM technologies, opposition to media or hardware levies;
* reform of patent law, particularly stating that patents on life (including patents on seeds and on genes) and software should not be allowed;
* strengthening civil rights, transparent government, speedy and fair trial and freedom of speech; expansion of the right to anonymity in communication.

Pirate Parties International
Pirate Parties International (PPI) is the umbrella organization of the national Pirate Parties. Since 2006 the organization exists as a loose union of the national parties. Since October 2009, PPI has the status of a non-governmental organization (Feitelijke vereniging) based in Belgium. The organization was officially founded at a conference from 16 to 18 April 2010 in Brussels, when the organization's statutes were adopted by the 22 national pirate parties represented at the event.

The PP International Foundation helps to establish of Pirate Parties around the world. It operates forums and mailing lists for communication between the national parties. The PPI is governed by a board, led by co-chairs Marcel Kolaja (Czech Republic) and Samir Allioui (Netherlands).
